Job Description

The Snr Employee Relations Consultant plays a critical role in ensuring fair, legally compliant, and effective handling of disciplinary processes, conciliations, and arbitrations. This position is responsible for upholding company policies while maintaining constructive employer-employee relations.

Chairing Disciplinary Hearings
• Lead and facilitate disciplinary hearings with impartiality and adherence to company policies and labour laws.
• Assess evidence, question witnesses, and ensure procedural fairness.
• Provide clear and well-reasoned findings, issuing appropriate sanctions where necessary.
Conciliations & Dispute Resolution
• Represent the company at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA) and other dispute resolution forums.
• Engage in pre-conciliation efforts to resolve matters amicably and minimize litigation risk.
• Draft and present arguments in conciliation proceedings to negotiate fair settlements.
Arbitrations & Legal Representation
• Prepare and present cases during arbitration, ensuring legal compliance and protection of company interests.
• Work closely with legal counsel to develop case strategies.
• Maintain detailed case records and documentation for future reference.
Advisory & Compliance Support
• Provide expert advice to management on employee relations matters, disciplinary procedures, and labour law compliance.
• Ensure that all disciplinary actions align with company policy and South African labour legislation.
• Conduct training for line managers on handling workplace discipline and dispute resolution.
Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of disciplinary hearings, CCMA cases, and dispute resolutions.
• Provide regular reports on case trends and employee relations risks to senior management.


Required Experience & Qualifications
1. Strong knowledge of South African labor law and CCMA procedures.
2. Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
3. Ability to manage sensitive employee matters with discretion and professionalism.
4. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
5. Experience in chairing hearings and representing employers in dispute resolution forums.
6. Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Labour Relations, or Law.
7. Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in employee relations, labour law, or HR dispute resolution.
8. Experience in chairing disciplinary hearings and representing employers at CCMA.
9. In-depth knowledge of South African labour laws, including the Labour Relations Act.
10. Strong case preparation and legal document drafting skills.
